🖐 Friday Five (NFT UX, Design System Myths, Web Browsing Blues, and more)

Hi friends!

We're back with our 7th issue of Friday Five, a weekly email with our top 5 finds to help you level up as a designer. Here's what we want to share with you this week.

This week's Finds:

1. Back to Basics: Design fundamentals worth revisiting

2. Great Product Design: The best design approach for new products

3. Design System Myths: Hot takes on using design systems

4. NFT UX: A UX case study on OpenSea

5. Web Browsing Blues: How we experience the web today

1) Design fundamentals for startups

Garry Tan breaks down the entire design process and covers all the basics in this great lecture from YC School. If you're looking for a thorough refresher on design fundamentals, it's a must-watch.

2) If your product is great, it doesn't need to be good

We love design philosophy, and this article by the creator of Gmail is one of the best. He argues the best approach to designing new products is to pick 3 key features, get those very, *very* right, and then forget about everything else.

3) Design system this, design system that

Check out this Twitter thread for a collection of common design system myths to be aware of. The one that gets under our skin? "Design systems for marketing orgs owning .com are totally the same and always as effective and maturely maintained as design systems for product orgs."

4) The UX behind selling an NFT on OpenSea

NFT mania is here and people are flocking to OpenSea: the biggest platform for buying and selling NFTs. But is OpenSea's UX of creating and selling NFTs living up to the hype? Read the full case study (92-slides of UX goodness) to find out.

5) How we experience the web today

This website will make you laugh, cry, and probably pull your hair out.

Have a great weekend!
